When Mario came to Goodwill, there were challenges presented in finding an appropriate job that met his abilities.
Mario, who has cognitive impairment resulting from a childhood injury, was searching for a janitorial job with flexible hours, for an employer who was able to accommodate his pace.
He began working with Employment Specialist Ryan last March and through a process known as job carving, began working for Fazoli’s in May.
Job carving is a process that involves customizing, creating, or modifying a job description to align with an employee’s specific skills, strengths, and needs, rather than forcing that employee into a rigid, pre-existing role. This process is frequently used to create employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. It involves breaking down existing jobs to redistribute tasks, or building a new role from necessary, unmet tasks within a company.
Mario’s role at Fazoli’s includes cleaning, washing dishes, stocking, and making breadsticks. Mario stated he especially enjoys cleaning floors and putting the truck away.
“I’ll stay there until I retire!” he said.
We’re very proud of Mario and wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors at Fazoli’s!
