We’re so excited to announce that our Community Health Worker Courtney Baughman recently completed her CHW certification process through the Ohio Board of Nursing!
“I knew this is what I wanted to do,” Courtney said. “But taking in all of the knowledge, I feel so much more equipped — there’s so much confirmation that this is where I’m supposed to be and this is what I’m supposed to be doing.”
To become a certified Community Health Worker (CHW) in Ohio, one must complete an approved training program that includes 100 hours of didactic instruction and a minimum of 130 hours of clinical experience. Courtney completed the program while balancing a full caseload and taking classes.
“To have gone through this and to really understand the ins and outs and the care, all the pieces and parts just made it all make sense,” she said. “I think I was doing a pretty good job beforehand, but now there’s just this depth of understanding of why we do what we do that I didn’t have before. I knew why we did what we did, but it’s just so much more rich, there’s so much more wisdom. That’s what I was able to gain – a lot of knowledge and wisdom, and now I get to apply that into our community, into our organization, and into our team members who are just starting out.”
Congratulations Courtney!!
